Bloupool "Bloop" Papslupsloop is a Kuo-Toa who is the self-proclaimed Archpriestess of Glip-Glip, an imaginary goddess that she believes she is in a romantic relationship with.
She roams the Underdark on a indefinite "pilgrimage", setting up crude shrines to Glip-Glip wherever she can, and has adopted a more outsider-friendly mindset (as opposed to most other Kuo-Toa) in order to spread the message and worship of her non-existent goddess lover to as many people as possible. So far, she had converted zero people this way.
Appearance
Bloop is of average height for a Kuo-Toa, around 5ft tall with a round stocky body with prominent fins that have a light silky consistency (similar to beta fish fins) compared to the normal rigidity fish fins typically have. She is most often covered in a thick layer of slime her body naturally produces, which gives off a salty fish odor and makes her whole body have a shimmering sheen to it. When a thin layer of it gets on her fins, it causes them to have a dazzling, sparkly appearance.
Her scales are usually a medium blue-grey with a lighter underbelly, and she has pale freckles across her face. But like many Kuo-Toa, her scales will change color during intense emotional states. Her scales will take on a more purplish color when irritated or angry, a deeper indigo color when elated, a dull grey when crestfallen, and a pallid blue when anxious or scared.
Although she doesn't blink and most other races would consider her face very expressionless and hard to read, her budging orange eyes and typically agape mouth is considered to be bright and cheery to most other Kuo-Toa.
As a Kuo-Toa, she possesses sharp teeth and claws, and webbed hands and feet.
Bloop is consider especially beautiful among the Kuo-Toa, possessing many of the ideal beauty standards: prominent lush silk-like fins that glimmer, excessively slimy skin that gives a desirable glisten, a distinct saltiness to her potent fishy smell, and a large bulging forehead (which the Kuo-Toa incorrectly believe indicates great intelligence).
History
Despite being born into a low social rank in a commoner's communal pool in the city of Sloopdilmonpolop alongside dozens of other egg clutches, her striking beauty elevated her into becoming a monitor (warrior monk), when a priest deemed her beauty to be a blessing from Blibdoolpoolp, the Sea Mother, and thus a sign she was going to be a powerful monitor. Bloop excelled at martial arts, and underwent intense mental meditation to stay clearheaded and sane, as all monitors were required to be.
During her training, she began to believe in an imaginary Kuo-Toa woman named Glip-Glip who also was training as a monitor in her cohort. Glip-Glip told her to keep their friendship secret, because close relationships are frowned upon by monitors, thus her delusions were never caught by her superiors.
After serving as a talented monitor in Kuo-Toa society, her exceptional beauty caught the attention a powerful priest-duke named Akuabootoa, who became smitten with her. As a royal elite with significant power, he ended her service as a monitor in order to make her his most beautiful and prized concubine. Bloop was kept at his private royal spawning pit like many other concubines of the elites, her only company being him and his other six concubines. She told them of Glip-Glip, and expressed worry about never seeing her again. One of the other concubines, also in the fits of delusion, claimed they know Glip-Glip, but she wasn't a monitor anymore, the Sea Mother had ascended her to become a leviathan.
Bloop prayed to the Sea Mother that very night, asking if it was true that Glip-Glip is a leviathan now. However, instead of the Sea Mother answering her, the divine presence of Glip-Glip answered her instead, and confirmed she was not just a leviathan, but also a goddess now, and confessed her love to Bloop. Bloop share this revelation with the other concubines, and they all began to worship Glip-Glip in secret.
As his favorite concubine, Akuabootoa gifted her with an expensive iridescent clam locket, since he had his own delusional belief that she loved and adored him. This belief was only accidentally reinforced when Bloop began wearing the clam locket on her at all times, but she only did so because she drew a picture of Glip-Glip to put inside.

One day, an apparition of Glip-Glip appeared before her. The apparition of Glip-Glip bestowed Bloop the title as her Archpriestess; however, since Glip-Glip explained that Akuabootoa wouldn't allow Bloop to dedicate herself to her, she urged Bloop to escape. Bloop left that very same night and fled the city she was born and raised in to escape into the greater Underdark, where her worship and love of the non-existent Glip-Glip could prosper.
Akuabootoa still searches for her to this day, as he is obsessed with Bloop's beauty and refuses to let her go. He is determined to find her again, and placed a bounty of one thousand pearls for her return. While her name and beauty is known through Sloopdilmonpolop due to her association with one of the nine powerful priest-dukes, but her reputation doesn't extend far past the city.
Despite only being his concubine for half a year, she bore two clutches of eggs for Akuabootoa, the Pearl Pool and the Powerful Pool, both noble fingerling pools under Akuabootoa's possession. Her offspring are not yet old enough to be considered individuals in Kuo-Toa society, and will undergo culling before they reach maturity, so she has no emotional attachment to the fingerlings, nor cares what happens to them.
Because of Bloop's intense dedication, Glip-Glip can occasionally manifest into reality in small but real ways, particularly during moments of strong faith and love from Bloop, such as when she is sacrificing a life in Glip-Glip's name.
Personality
Bloop is used to being fawned over her entire life for her beauty, so she often believes anyone in a given room with her finds her stunning, and will misattribute any attention she receives-- whether it be positive or negative-- as a sign of that person's admiration for her. She is completely unaware that her attractiveness is only apparent to other fish races, and will accuse anyone from Drow to Deep Gnomes as flirting with her when they so much as make polite conversation.
Despite the delusion that she is in a world of constant admirers, she has a relatively friendly and cheerful attitude since experiencing freedom from Akuabootoa. She tries to use her good looks[6] and good charisma[7] to convert people into worship of Glip-Glip. However, despite her friendly attitude, she will express immense lack of respect for the sanctity of life, and wholeheartedly believes in sacrificing living creatures as a show of faith and devotion. She does not understand why other races do not cull their weaker children, and she believes slavery is okay, especially of "inferior" races like the Locathah.
Her Kuo-Toan madness is evident to anyone who spends significant time around her, although she will claim her training as a monitor left her clear of mind. Delusions are a common daily occurrence, and when she doesn't understand something, her mind is more likely to fabricate a falsehood (usually of divine origin) rather than accept the unknown. When her sanity or the legitimacy of her delusions are questioned, she is liable to grow agitated, and possibly even violent if someone pokes too many holes in her perception of reality.
Trivia
- While her silky fins are less effective for swimming (unlike typical rigid Kuo-Toa fins), her fins have a cloth-like flow in the water similar to a beta fish, which is considered very erotic in Kuo-Toa society.
- Bloop's clam locket around her neck contains a hand-drawn picture of the non-existent Glip-Glip.
- She has trouble understanding names that are not in Kuo-Toan dialect, and will often translate any non-Kuo-Toan name into her dialect when speaking.
